Dear staff and parents,
We understand that it has been very difficult this summer in knowing what exactly the fall and reopening of school will look like. Today Kittitas County Public Health Department released their recommendation to start schools with distance learning for this fall. https://www.co.kittitas.wa.us/press/default.aspx?prID=11518
ESD is committed to promoting safety when reopening our schools. In light of this announcement by the Kittitas County Public Health Department, I will be recommending to the school board at tonight’s meeting that ESD start with distance learning on September 9th for all students. Our hope is to eventually be able to bring more students back to school in-person. If parents do not sign their children up for the ESD Virtual Academy, their students will still experience distance learning at the beginning of the year this fall. These students will also be eligible to come in-person when ESD gets the green light from the Kittitas County Public Health Department Officer, Dr. Mark Larson, to offer the hybrid model. More specific information about the learning models in ESD will be coming soon. We will also be working with Dr. Mark Larson to look at the option of bringing in smaller groups of students (in-person) this fall, as needed and if possible.
In light of this new recommendation by Kittitas County Health Department of starting school for all students virtually, we will be reopening ESD’s registration for the ESD Virtual Academy. If you would like to sign up for the ESD Virtual Academy, please go to this link. https://forms.gle/hLJs8b9MPacmhW5A7. Our extended deadline will be Wednesday August 12th for this option. Parents who sign up after August 12th will go on a waiting list and be placed in the Hybrid model. All students who were on previous waiting lists will be admitted to the ESD Virtual Academy. Please contact Maddy Boyer at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions about registration for the ESD Virtual Academy.
Each day I am thankful for our amazing ESD team, which includes our parents. Working together we will be empowered to offer our very best in helping our students to thrive.
Jinger Haberer, ESD Superintendent
